Local Community Events
"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV)
In the book of Acts we see believers not just congregating to have "church" but meeting daily to have fellowship and live life with one another. Christianity was never meant to be a private meeting but instead be a public display of love, unity, and righteous living. Depending on the culture of a particular church (or denomination) they may or may not become involved in non-ministry related events within the community. However, every public event can be an opportunity to showcase the love of God and even share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through taking action and supporting the needs of the community at events.
When the public sees a church serving the city and local community, they will take notice and begin to ask questions. Serving the community in different ways can also help to break the unfortunate stereotypes that a large portion of people believe about Christians. As the Body of Christ we are not just called to meet on Sundays and host events, but also to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those who surround us. Through the example of Jesus we can see how he did not just focus on spiritual needs, but was very approachable and had a heart to meet the physical needs of the people.

Some examples of supporting community events include participating in a city parade, joining a community clean-up crew, or serving at seasonal events such as a Christmas toy giveaway or Back-To-School backpack giveaway. Not only should we follow the example of Jesus by meeting the needs of the community, but we should also use this as an opportunity to set the example for all believers through our actions.

Church Conferences, Workshops, & Events
As ministers we should have a passionate desire to see people and places experience a divine transformation. Sometimes gathering once or twice a week isn't enough. There may be times when the teaching needed is specific for a particular demographic that not everyone will be interested in. In cases like this it would be wise to organize an event such as a conference, workshop, or other gathering specifically for people within the demographic or interested in that particular topic.
When conducting a conference, workshop, or other extended gathering it's a great idea to get creative. These extra events can become a huge blessing to all who are in attendance, but it could also become a huge burden to those who are planning or serving if things are not done in an orderly manner or there is a lack of preparation. Here's a few questions you should answer before moving forward with an event.
Who are you targeting?
What is the topic or overall teaching subject?
What would be the date, time, and location of the event?
What is the purpose of the event?
Who is speaking, leading, or overseeing the event?
Will the speaker/speakers be compensated?
What other leaders will be needed?
What volunteers will be needed?
What is the organized layout of the meeting?
How much will the event cost to put together?
Is there a charge to attend?
Will materials and resources be needed for the attendees?
Will there be gifts given away or for sale?
How will people hear about the event?
What is the overall desired outcome?
Does everybody know their place in the plan?
Many small details can go into the planning of an event and make it extremely memorable and impactful. Raffles, giveaways, photo booths, snacks, games, challenges, and other resources can all be used in a variety of events depending on the nature of the gathering. Once the main parts of the event have been planned, the smaller details can be incorporated. Strive to do things in excellence, in holiness, and in a way that will make a true Kingdom impact for all who attend.
